Caution:

This product will force large quantities of pressurized air from the bottom of your vehicle. Your vehicle’s air filter must be checked frequently as it may become saturated by debris more quickly, especially in operating conditions where your vehicle will be subject to gravel roads or other road debris. Do not operate your vehicle without the block off plate installed if you will be driving in heavy rain or large amounts of standing water. In warm climates, your vehicle may operate at higher operating temperatures with the Ram Air Plate installed. If you will be travelling under heavy load with high ambient temperatures, you should remove the Ram Air Plate before driving your vehicle. Failure to observe these precautions, may result in damage to your vehicle.

Tools Required For Installation:

Flat blade screwdriver Phillips screwdriver Hack saw blade

Protective gloves Drill and 7/64" drill bit 10mm and 8mm sockets

Tin snips or side cutters Tape measure

Hint: Installation will be much easier if you find someone to assist you.

Installation Instructions:

Note: Installation of this product on factory Ram Air equipped vehicles will render the scoop in the hood non functional. This method will yield the optimal performance improvement.

Caution: The edges of the sheet metal parts may be very sharp! Exercise

caution when handling the pieces and wear protective gloves.

  1. If your car is lowered, you may need to jack up the front of your vehicle to allow for room to work under the car. Make sure to follow your owner’s manual for proper jacking instructions and support the car on sturdy jack stands or ramps. The car must be on a level surface and you must chock the rear wheels to make sure it does not roll back. Failure to support the car properly could result in serious injury. Take all necessary precautions!
  2. Put on the work gloves. The sheet metal is very sharp and can cut you easily if you are not careful.
  3. Carefully remove the MAF sensor clip and move the wire out of the way.
  4. Carefully remove the IAT sensor clip and move the wire out of the way.
  5. Loosen the hose clamp and hose at the throttle body.
  6. Cover the throttle body so that no debris gets in while you are working.
  7. Pull up the tabs on the right and left side of the stock air box (not required on after market induction lids). The center portion of the tap will pull out to release the upper induction lid assembly.
  8. Remove the air box assembly and set it aside in a safe and clean location.
  9. Remove the four 10mm bolts from the filter base assembly.
  10. Remove the filter base assembly.
  11. Working with the filter base assembly, remove the inner tray and air filter. Set these parts aside in a safe and clean location.
  12. With the hack saw blade or tin snips, cut out the bottom of the air filter base leaving a 5/8" lip on the sides to support the air filter tray. (See diagram A)
  13. Diagram A

  14. Remove the plastic air deflector panel in front of the AC condensing coil. You must remove the barbed clips below the hood latch on the mid section of the panel. There are two more barbed clips on either side of the air deflector towards the bottom of the panel securing it to the radiator support frame. You will not be able to actually see the clips as they are recessed into holes within the thin legs of the plastic air deflector. If you firmly grab the air deflector near the bottom and apply careful, firm pressure, these clips will pull out.
  15. The barbed clips from the mid section must be removed completely. Turn the clip in the hole until they come loose. Save these clips in case you want to go back to stock at a later time. The location of the holes can be seen in Diagram B.
  16. Carefully remove the air deflector panel. Be careful not to damage the AC condensing coil. It is easier if you have one person under the vehicle guiding the panel out while another person pulls up from the top. There isn’t a lot of room to work with so you will need to twist and bend the air deflector slightly in order to remove it from the vehicle.
  17. Hint: To prevent damage to the A/C condenser, it is helpful to insert a thin piece of cardboard in front of it while you are working on the car. This will prevent damage to the delicate fins.

  18. You must cut a hole in the air deflector panel for the cold air duct to fit through. Several measurements must be made. You will use the existing slit near the top of the air deflector panel and the bend in the mid section of the panel as cutting references. The side cuts are made perpendicular to the top cut and should be measured using the raised edges of the air deflector as reference points. Refer to diagram B for details.
  19. Diagram B

Hint: Make sure the cold air duct will fit through the hole in the air deflector before reinstalling the deflector. Minor trimming may be required. Remember you can always take more material off but you can’t put it back on!

  20. Reinstall the air deflector carefully and secure it with the bottom two barbed clips. These will push back into the holes on the radiator frame.
  21. (See diagram C)

    Diagram C

  22. Remove the three 8mm factory bolts in the mid section of the lower air deflector. This is the piece that often bottoms out when you go over speed bumps. (See diagram E)
  23. Remove the 10mm bolt which secures the radiator support brace to the lower portion of the car above the 8mm air deflector bolts (See diagram E)
  24. Assemble the air duct with the Ram Air Plate (See diagram D). The Ram Air Plate is secured using three 8-32 screws (D) and wing nuts (E). The wing nuts should be tightened so that the wings are parallel to the walls of the duct as to least obstruct air flow.
  25. Diagram D

Note: The bend in the Ram Air Plate must be positioned so that the bend faces the front of the vehicle when installed on the cold air duct.

  26. Carefully slide the cold air duct and ram air plate through the hole you made in the air deflector. Be careful not to damage the AC condensing coil. It is helpful to have one person under the vehicle guiding the assembly down while another person lowers it from the top. The cold air duct often catches on the plastic air deflector and will require you to lift the duct out slightly, hold the air deflector back with one hand, and then lower the duct.
  27. When the ram air plate is close the radiator support brace, carefully pull the support brace back enough that the Ram Air Plate can fit through. Continue to lower the ram air plate and slide the edge over the factory lower air deflector.
  28. Hint: If you want a more stealthy installation, you can remove all of the bolts that secure the lower factory air deflector and slide the edge of the ram air plate behind the plastic instead of in front.

  29. Line up the holes in the lower portion of the ram air plate with the holes from the bolts you removed in the lower air deflector and radiator support brace. The holes have been enlarged to allow you to center the kit under the lower air filter assembly. Center the kit as best as possible and then slide washers (K) on to the three factory 8mm bolts and then push them through the round holes on the ram air plate and secure to the factory holes which secure the lower air deflector. Slowly tighten until the Ram Air Plate is flush with the air deflector. (See diagram E). The ram air plate will have a smooth curve in it when installed.
  30. Hint: Some car may have tolerances which make it difficult to line up the bolt holes. If this happens, take a curved file or drill bit to elongate the holes in the direction that is required.

    Diagram E

  31. Reinstall the 10mm bolt in the radiator support brace and tighten.
  32. Insert the two ¼" bolts (J) and large 5/16" washers (M) from the inside of the cold air duct under the car through the middle of the plastic air deflector you removed previously. Install the large ¼" metal washers (K) on the other side of the air deflector and secure hand tight with the matching ¼" nuts (L). This is much easier if you have one person tightening the nuts while the other person holds the bolts in the cold air duct on the other side. (See diagram F)
  33. Diagram F

Hint: If you don’t have someone to help you, it can be quite frustrating to secure the bolts without them falling out over and over. A helpful hint is to use duct tape to cover the bolts inside the cold air duct and keep them from backing out.

  34. Check to make sure all the bolts you installed are secure.
  35. Working with the top of the cold air duct, push the duct as far forwards towards the front of the vehicle as possible. Mark the mounting holes and drill holes with a 7/64" drill bit.
  36. Screw down the upper portion of the duct with the supplied black mounting screws (F). Tighten until the top of the duct is flat on the bumper support below.
  37. Working with the factory air filter base, determine the location that will best mate with the cold air duct below. You will be placing the 3 adhesive foam strips on the lip of the under side of the air filter base. Make sure the clean the lip with a plastic friendly degreaser.
  38. Attach the 3 adhesive foam seals to the air filter assembly base as shown in diagram G. Trim for best fit and be careful to position them correctly before pressing them down securely. The long seal attaches under the lip of the air filter base towards the engine and seals to the metal below. It is helpful to cut the two 8 ½ long strips into 2 equal length pieces. One piece will be secured under the lip of the air filter base while the other piece can be pressed against the top of the air filter duct where it meets air filter base near the front of the car. (also see diagram H for seal placement)
  39.

    Diagram G

  40. Reinstall the factory air filter base and reinsert the air filter tray. Tighten the four 10 mm bolts to secure the base. Be careful that you do not over tighten the bolts or you WILL crack the plastic base.
  41. Reinstall the factory air box lid (or after market induction lid).
  42. Take the long rubber seal (G) and press it on the metal lip in front of the air box. Position it so it completely covers the opening in the forward portion of the air box and trim as necessary for best fit. Press the rubber seal under the lower portion of the front of the air box so that you get a good seal. (See diagram F)
  43. Reattach the MAF sensor clip and IAT sensor clip.
  44. Reattach the rubber air hose to the throttle body and tighten the hose clamp.
  45. Start the vehicle and check for air leaks.
  46. Go out and test drive the vehicle and have fun.

Disabling The Ram Air Kit:

The ram air system includes a block off plate which can be used to disable the kit for use in inclement weather or while travelling on dusty roads. This whole process can be done in about 5-10 minutes. (See diagram H). It is recommended that you keep the block off plate and the necessary tools required for installation in your car at all times. This will allow you to install the block off plate in emergencies.

  1. Remove the upper air induction assembly lid.
  2. Loosen the four 10mm bolts which secure down the filter base assembly. You do not have to remove them all the way.
  3. Remove the inner air filter tray.
  4. Remove the two black mounting screws which secure the cold air duct to the car.
  5. Slide the block off plate under the edge of the filter base assembly and line up the holes in the plate with those you drilled in the car to secure the cold air duct.
  6. Reinstall the two black mounting screws through the block off plate and the cold air duct into the holes below and tighten.
  7. Remove the front rubber seal by gently prying it away from the car.
